Harlem-My Community and My Home

 For my project i decided to visually  design a world where i was born and raised;
A world known as Harlem. A neigberhood in the New York City Borough of Manhattan,
 which since the 1920s has been a major African American residential, cultural, and business center.
Harlem is also the home of many popular landmarks such as 125th Street and the Apollo Theatre.
Wanting to capture Harlem and its historical landscape,
i decided to give it a more aristic and creative look to it
because it serves as the cornerstone of my community.

first i had to browse for a perfect landscape of Harlem/125th Street. I dragged into photoshop where it automatically becomes a background layer. I then made a copy of that layer.

Second i wanted to give this lanscape a name to make the composition stand out so i wanted to add the word Harlem. Afterwards, i used the font (A Bite) to make it look more urban. I gave it a variety of colors to make it look realistic and added an effect such as a stroke it outline it.I then placed it on top of the lanscape

Third i had wanted to texturize the image to make it look visually appealing like a painting. I then adjusted the image by manipulating the brightness and contrast.

i wanted to add an image (a hand sketching) because i wanted to go beyond. The reason why this element plays a pivotal role in this compostion because the purpose of this project is to be artistic. In order for me to place this image in the landscape i have to get rid of the white background that surrounds it.

I had to zoom in and use my eraser tool to get in hard to reach places and eliminate the white spots.

final step

All of the elements that i used are finally combined to create a one unifying piece

People who I admire

This is a black and white image of Stephen King, the greatest horror storyteller of all time. I wanted to experiment with this image by blending it with a form of texture manipulating the opacity level. I also wanted to adjust the brightness/contrast. I wanted to further texturize this image giving it a more creepy feel to it.

People who I admire

This is a black and white image of Spike Lee, the most controversial black director of our time. I wanted to give this image a realistic texture. Spike Lee represents Brooklyn so i wanted to add this urban landscape
